Obituary of Aganetha Friesen Doerksen

Our Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Aganetha F. Doerksen, passed away peacefully on April 29th/2007 at Rest Haven Nursing Home. She was born on May 11th/1916 to Abram Loeppky Friesen and Anna Kroeker Neufeld Friesen near Otterburne, MB. She was predeceased by her husband of twenty eight years, David F. Doerksen, her parents Abram and Anna Friesen, step mother Tina Friesen, sisters Anna Neufeld in infancy, sister Anna Wiebe, sister Tina Unger, brothers Aaron K. Friesen, Peter K. Friesen and Abram Friesen and son-in-law John Funk. She is survived by two daughters, five sons, and their families: Esther Funk of Mitchell, Sarah Sidey of Steinbach, Dave Doerksen of Winnipeg, Ben (Ann) Doerksen of Mitchell, Peter (Janet) Doerksen of Giroux, Jac (Diana) Doerksen of Randolph, and John (Heike) Doerksen of Regina. She also leaves to mourn her sister Margaret W. Friesen and sister-in-law Sara (Braun) Friesen. She will be missed dearly by her 20 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Aganetha’s mother passed away when she was only 16 months old. She wrote that she was a sickly child, so her Aunt Tina took care of her until her father remarried in 1918. In the spring of 1919, they moved to the family farm in Mitchell. There, her dad had built a lean-to onto the south side of the barn which was to be their home until a house was built on the property. She had to work hard on the farm and stopped going to school after grade 7. In 1970, she married David F. Doerksen. They lived on a farm in Randolph until 1973, which was when they built a new home in Mitchell. This was to be their retirement home for about 24 years. She always enjoyed working in the garden and was only caught in the house when it was time to get ready for meals. She did a fantastic job of taking care of her husband and the whole family. She always had a smile for everyone. Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, you rest in our hearts now. The funeral service will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel on Thursday, May 3 at 2:00 p.m. with interment at Randolph Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at Bethesda Hospital and Rest Haven for their wonderful support over the past six months. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Christian Blind Mission, Box 800, Stouffville, ON L4A 7Z9.
