Obituary of Albert F. Reimer

Albert F. Reimer passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 13, 2008. He was 92. Albert was born on March 16, 1916, in Meade County, Kansas. On the eve of his 14th birthday, his family moved to Daihart, Texas. In 1935, at the age of 19, and after being devastated by the Great Depression, he and his family moved from the Panhandle of Texas to Canada. Using a 1920’s model school bus, the move was like a scene from John Steinbeck’s novel “Grapes of Wrath”. This was a tough journey, yet in spite of this, he spent a lifetime of extensive travel throughout North America. Most of dad’s life was spent in the construction business, building many churches and over 500 houses. His faith and his church family played a prominent role in his life, and he served on numerous church committees, was an usher, and was a founding member of the Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church. In retirement, he played a major role in the raising of his four grandsons. When we remember that just this past winter, dad was still clearing the snow from his driveway, we are grateful to God for his long and fruitful life. The family would like to dearly thank the compassionate staff at Bethesda Hospital. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Curtis Krahn, who for the last 25 years went way beyond the routine in helping provide a great quality of life for our father. Albert Reimer is survived by his wife of 68 years, Anna; 2 sons, Lou (Joyce), Dwight and 4 grandsons, Michael, Jeff, Greg, and Dan. Also surviving him are 1 brother, 7 sisters, 8 brothers-in-law, and 8 sisters-in-law. Viewing will be held Monday, June 16 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. and at the church prior to the service. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 17 at 2:00 p.m. at the Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church, 360 McKenzie Ave, Steinbach with interment at Heritage Cemetery.
