Obituary of Aganetha Dyck

Aganetha Dyck, age 97, passed away at Rest Haven Nursing Home, Steinbach, Manitoba, on June 20, 2008. Agnes, as she was known to many people, was born in the Hague, Saskatchewan district June 15, 1911 to Jacob and Aganetha (Fehr) Guenther. As a young girl, she attended the German Church School. When she was about 17 years old, she was baptized in the Mennonite Bergthaler Church. Much later, after we moved to Manitoba, she married Mr. Ben Dyck. His children are Ben, John, Helen, David, and Kathy. She had operations on her eyes, but became blind in spite of it. She frequently expressed her wish that she could die. Lastly, she was strapped into her wheelchair so as to keep from falling. She was concerned about her younger siblings, and often quoted scripture to remind us to go straight. Agnes was an outgoing person and always ready to give a meal to all who came to visit. She loved singing and sang along in the gatherings at the home she was in. We praise the Lord for taking her home when he did. She is survived by siblings: Mary Hildebrandt, Helen Bergen (in a nursing home in Alberta), John (life long bachelor in Burns Lake, B.C.), Ann Wiebe (Saskatoon, SK), Katherine Friesen (Grunthal), Sara & Larry Steffan (Stony Mountain, MB). Agnes was predeceased by her husband, Ben Dyck, her parents, and brothers Isaac, Jacob, Peter, and Abe. The funeral service will be held Thursday, June 26, 2008, at 2:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, with interment at New Bothwell Sommerfeld Church Cemetery.
