Obituary of Edward Penner Warkentin

Edward Penner Warkentin was born to John G. and Helena Penner Warkentin on July 7, 1922 at Greenland, MB. He peacefully passed away on May 1, 2007 at the Maplewood Manor, Steinbach, MB reaching the age of 84 years. He was the youngest of a family of 15 children. He was 12 years of age when his mother passed away. At the age of 18, dad answered the call of the Lord. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on June 1, 1941. Remaining faithful to the end, we have the assurance he is safe at home with his Lord. Dad spent time serving as a CO at camp near Clear Lake, MB. He talks of the times of being in the lookout tower with his Bible close by for reading. On March 21, 1948, Dad was united in marriage to our mother, Emma Penner, by John D. Penner at Rosenort, MB. They shared and enjoyed their life together, till Mom passed away in March of 1995, just short of their 47th anniversary. Three sons and three daughters were born to them. Immediately after marriage, they moved to the family farm at Greenland, MB. Commercial layers and grain farming were his main occupation and he enjoyed the friendships he made through them. In June of 1980, we moved to Hyas, SK. He took up grain farming. He lived there for 22 years. Mom’s passing left Dad very lonely. Dad found companionship in Frances Penner and they were married on October 11, 1998. They shared eight and one half years together. Dad’s loneliness was filled and it warmed our hearts watching their relationship. In fall of 2002, the Maplewood Manor became his residence till the time of his death. Left to mourn his passing are his loving wife, Frances, his children, Howard and Elfrieda of Hyas, SK; Julie and Franklin Friesen of Meeting Creek, AB; Bernie and Sherrill of Hyas, SK; Lois of Greenland, MB; Dwight and Chris of Ferintosh, AB; Gloria and Kevin Goossen of Abbotsford, BC; 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, one sister Margaret Toews of Maplewood Manor in Steinbach, MB. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Emma, one grandson Chad Warkentin and all his brothers and sisters except for one. Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel on Thursday, May 3 at 7:00 p.m. and at the church at service time. The funeral will be held Saturday, May 5, 10:30 a.m. at the Northstar Church of God in Christ Mennonite at Norquay, SK with interment at the church cemetery.
