Peter S Koop at the age of 94 passed away peacefully in the early morning of July 3, 2008 in Steinbach, Manitoba at Rest Haven Nursing Home. He was born on January 19, 1914, the second child of Johan N. Koop and Aganetha Koop who had a large family with 8 boys and 3 girls. Peter married Esther Reimer of Steinbach on September 19, 1943, and raised a family of 3 girls and 2 boys. After Esther’s death on April 27, 1981, he married Elizabeth Koop on July 20, 1991. Peter was a hard worker, starting at the age of 14, in 1928 working seasonally for three and a half years farming at Jacob and Isaac F. Loewen’s. In 1931 he worked for C.F. Giesbrecht. He built a house for his parents in 1939 in Blumenort. From 1940 to 1948 he worked for Plett Brothers of Blumenort. From 1948 to 1954 he worked for Plett & Company as a foreman. From 1954 – 1961 he worked at Penner Electric as a salesman. From 1961 to 1982 he was an engineer at Granny’s Poultry/Co-op. He attended engineering school during the evenings to earn a Class 3 license. In 1982 he retired from the work force. Peter was very active in his church, the Steinbach EMC, where he was sound engineer for over 15 years; he took great pride in his church work and could be found at the front of the church running the PA system many times a week. Peter is survived by his dear wife Elizabeth Koop of Steinbach, his daughter Sandi Falk (Ed) of Grunthal, son Dennis of Winnipeg, daughter Sharon Broesky (Allen) of Steinbach, son-in-law Herb (Esther) Heppner and son Paul (Gloria) of Winnipeg; and grandchildren Andrew Heppner (Margo), Jon Heppner, Gerry Falk (Corinne), Audra Wyryha (Jason), Matthew Broesky (fiancée Jocelyn), Kevin Broesky (Jerrah-Lee), Emma Koop, Adam Koop and Mira Koop; his sister Maria, sister Helena, brother Henry (Shirley), brother Gerhard, sisters-in-law Margaret and Eleanor, plus numerous great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Esther in 1981, daughter Francis Heppner, December 1990, brother Jacob, brother Franz, brother Albert, sister Katherine, and brother Hans. The funeral service will be held Monday, July 7, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Mennonite Church, 422 Main St, Steinbach, MB.
