Obituary of Alice Fournier

Peacefully surrounded by her family, Alice Fournier passed away August 25th, 2008, at Villa Youville, in Sainte-Anne, at the age of 85. She leaves to mourn her husband of 64 years Noel Fournier, and their 8 children; Émile (Cécile Laramée), Anita (Hubert Bouchard), Cécile (Mike Dyck), Gerard, Fernand (Évelyn Vielfaure), Marjolaine (Germain Rocan), Paulette (Brian Jones) and Robert. Alice also leaves to mourn 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, her brothers Paul, Pierre (Rita Michaud), her sisters Yvonne (Henri Gosselin), Hélène (Noé Bédard), Marie, Cécile, Pauline, Claudette (Léandre Bisson), Rita and sister-in-law Léona (Fournier) Dansereau, Simone (Kirouac) and Solange (Courcelles). Alice was predeceased by her mother Maria (Fisette), her father Joseph Wilbrod Verrier, her brothers Edmond, Eugène, Joseph and her sisters Marguerite (Laurin), Thérèse (Richard), daughter-in-law Suzanne Levesque, granddaughter Carol Fournier and grandson Colin Fournier. Mom was born in Ste. Agathe, Manitoba and moved from Aubigny to La Broquerie with her parents when she was four years old. She grew up on a farm surrounded by her 14 brothers and sisters. Mom was a very hard worker. At an early age she worked for numerous families, helping with household duties. She also worked at the Saint-Boniface Hospital. In 1944 she married Noël Fournier. They lived in Saint-Boniface, moved to Sainte-Anne and then established themselves on a farm in La Broquerie. Mom was a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing meals for company. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, canning, playing cards, and spending time with family. Alice struggled with mental illness, which limited her quality of life. Her faith helped her to survive the difficulties of her disease and in spite of her illness there were many wonderful moments spent with Mom. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at the Villa Youville for taking care of Mom for 19 years. A special thank you to Sisters Irère Rioux and Marguerite Forest. Funeral services will be held at Saint-Joachim Catholic Church in La Broquerie, on Friday, August 29th at 11:00 a.m. (No Viewing). No flowers by request. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in her memory to the Manitoba Schizophrenia Society, 3-227 Main St., Steinbach, MB R5G 1Y7. As we look back over time We find ourselves wondering… Did we remember to thank you enough For all you have done for us? For all the times you were by our sides To help and support us… To celebrate our successes To understand our problems And accept our defeats? Or for teaching us by your example, The value of hard work, good judgment, Courage and integrity? We wonder if we ever thanked you For the sacrifices you made. To let us have the very best? And for the simple things Like laughter, smiles and times we shared? If we have forgotten to show our Gratitude enough for all the things you did, We’re thanking you now. And we are hoping you knew all along, How much you meant to us.
