Obituary of Jacob E. Peters

“The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.” Job 1:21 It has pleased our Lord and Savior to take our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to be with Him in glory. Jacob E. Peters passed away peacefully, at his home in Blumenort on March 19, 2007, at the age of 88. Dad enjoyed a healthy life until very recently when he was diagnosed with a terminal illness. Dad was born in Gretna, Manitoba, on April 5, 1918 to Jakob and Aganetha Peters. His dad died when he was only seven months old. When he was five, he, his mom and older brother moved to Mexico. He was eight when his mom married her second husband, Jakob Reimer. On August 1, 1943 dad married Sara Dyck. They enjoyed almost five years together before his wife died while giving birth to their fourth child. He married Margaretha Thiessen on August 28, 1949. They shared many happy memories during their marriage of over 57 years. God blessed their marriage with eight children. Two of the men who were very instrumental in his spiritual growth were John P. Loewen and Andrew Plett. Dad set out to prove them wrong. Instead, he found errors in what he had believed. The spiritual well-being of his family became so important to him that he moved them to the Quellon Colony in 1965. They moved to Neustaedt for several years before moving to Canada to be closer to some of the children. During these last years he has spent many hours working on the computer and writing his memoirs. He was predeceased by his parents, Jakob & Aganetha Peters; his first wife, Sara Dyck; a brother in infancy; his brother, Abram Peters; and his half brother, Franz Reimer. He is survived by his wife, Margaretha; 2 half sisters, Aganetha Thiessen and Helena Klassen, both of Bolivia; 7 daughters and 5 sons: Franz & Anna Peters, Blumenort; Agnes & Lawrence Reimer, Blumenort and Mexico; Helena & Hein Reimer, Wetaskiwin, AB; Sara Peters, Steinbach; Susanna & Alvin Dueck, Paris, Texas; Jake & Lavina Peters, Blumenort; Diedrich & Katherina Peters, Leamington, ON; Margaret & Ed Loewen, Rosenort; Edith & Jake Peters, Rosenort; Abram & Maria Peters, Ridgewood; Neil & Marilyn Peters, Lorette; Tina & Calvin Loewen, Barrhead, AB. He also leaves 41 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. A special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and home care staff who helped care for him during his time of illness. We will miss dad a lot but we are so happy in knowing that he is in a better place. He does not need to fight for his breath anymore. We cannot wish him back but rather long to join him up in heaven one day soon. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to The Gospel Message, one of the Low German radio broadcasts they listened to regularly. The Gospel Message, Box 1760, Warman, SK S0K 4S0. The funeral service will be held at Blumenort EMC Church on Friday, March 23 at 2 p.m. with interment at the church cemetery. Viewing will take place Thursday at Birchwood Funeral Chapel at 7 p.m. and prior to the service. The family
