Obituary of Doug Plett

Doug Plett – a.k.a. dad, Dougie, Shooter D Born on the 10th March 1959 in Steinbach, Manitoba and left us on the 14th July 2006, to be with his father and best friend in Heaven. He is survived by his wife Lauri, sons and daughter: Sam, Mat & Sawmteii, parents, friends and relatives. Till his last breath, Doug was laughing and sharing his crazy jokes with a business owner, when he suddenly fell and dropped in Elko, Nevada. With his wife holding him close to her, he died a very peaceful and painless death. Doug spent his last few weeks on earth with his favorite companion and wife Lauri, driving all over Canada and the USA, enjoying each other’s company and God’s creation. He was at the peak of his health when the Lord called him. It was Doug’s time to go. Doug worked at Penner International, Steinbach for most of his trucking years and moved to Tenold Transportation towards the end of his life. Doug loved people and the outdoors. He was always ready to go hunting, fishing, golfing and boating. He was given the name Shooter D by his hunting buddies mainly because when they saw a buck, Doug shot like there’s no tomorrow. He loved photography and filming so much, that it was tough to find a recent picture of him; besides the ones he took of himself. Doug had all the possible tools in the world and was the best husband, father and son. He always surprised his family with gifts and pranks and gave his wife cards and treats all the time. He made life an exciting adventure to remember and was the best holiday and fun planner, getting everything ready, down to the minutest detail. He was the 911 for fixing things and knew about all the cool gadgets television could provide. He loved the cool scar he got post heart-surgery in August 2005 and flaunted it, even though no one wanted to see it. He encouraged everyone with his energy and enigmatic personality. Doug absolutely loved the Lord and was always raising his hands and worshipping Him. He encouraged us with his prayers and passages from the Bible. He spent his last day on earth, praying with his wife for his kids, Mat, Sawmteii and Sam. He loved watching and listening to his son Sam singing and acting and followed him like a crazy fan for all the performances he could make it to. He loved paint balling, wake-boarding and renovating with Mat, often exchanging “Tools of the Trade” and discussing strategies for success. He loved pampering his daughter-in-law Sawmteii, being her personal chauffer every time he was around. Doug will be missed immensely by all. He was, is and will always be loved and remembered fondly. We love you Doug and we will see you soon in Heaven to catch up on all the fun you have been having there. Doug left two passages for us from the Bible which Jesus spoke: John 14:27 – “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 16:22-24 – “Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you.” 23 “And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. 24 Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.” The funeral service will be held at Southland Community Church, 190 PTH 52 W, Steinbach on Saturday, July 22, 2006 at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Heritage Cemetery.
