Obituary of Henry K. Plett

Dad was born to Abram R. and Elizabeth Plett and grew up in Greenland, Manitoba. He began his personal relationship with his beloved Lord and Saviour when he was 19 and was baptized in the Blumenort Kleine Gemeinde (now EMC) Church on June 30, 1940. He married our mother, Margaret Fast, on June 17, 1945. Except for six months in Mexico in 1952, they spent the rest of their lives, with their family of thirteen children in Blumenort. Dad worked for many years for Fast Brothers in Blumenort, a few years for Schellenberg Sales and Service in Steinbach, and then they purchased and moved to a hog farm just west of Blumenort. Dad and Mom, together with their family lived and worked on the farm until Mom passed away on May 6, 1992. Shortly after Mom’s passing, Dad moved back into Blumenort with two daughters, Cornellie and Irma, where he lived until his death. Dad loved his family, and delighted in their visits and in family get-togethers. He was also actively involved in his church. He taught Sunday School for more than thirty years, and sang in hospitals and personal care homes in Steinbach and Vita with The Singing Grandpas for about thirty five. After a week’s stay in the Ste. Anne Hospital, Dad went home to be with his Saviour on August 23, 2006. He joined his parents, his wife Margaret, his daughter Lottie, one granddaughter, one brother and two sisters, and numerous in laws and nieces and nephews in their final residence. Many people came to celebrate his life and mourn his death at his burial and memorial services on Sunday, August 27, at the Blumenort EMC Cemetery and Church. His children, Dan Thiessen, Betty and Garnet Reimer, Dennis and Irene Plett, Agatha and Dennis Friesen, Anne and Denver Reimer, Marlene and Peter Rempel, Irma Plett, Ruby and Jake Barkman, Robert and Rachel Plett, Cornellie Plett, Howard and Carolyn Plett, Delores and Terry Penner and Bernice and Glenn Brandt, 45 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, four brothers, four sisters, his brothers and sisters in law, and many other relatives and friends will miss him dearly.
