Obituary of Garry W. Penner

It is with deep sadness that we the family announce the passing of Garry Penner, on September 3, 2006, at the age of 46. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 27 years Deann; two sons, Jeremy and Jason; one daughter, Constance (David Andrè); his mother and father, Jacob and Margaret; four brothers: Jake (Barb), Allan (Doris), Danny (Carole), Dale (April); and two sisters: Margaret (David Dueck), and Linda (Randy Goertzen). He is also survived by his mother-in-law Edith Baldwin, three brothers-in-law and their spouses, two sisters-in-law and their spouses, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Andrew, in 1993 and his father-in-law Harvey Baldwin in 1985. Dad was born in Steinbach on May 8, 1960 and lived near Grunthal his whole life. He started his trucking career in 1980 and continued trucking right till the end. Dad and Mom started their own trucking company in 1996, titled G.D.P. Trucking Ltd. He was very proud of his sons following his dreams in trucking. Dad always worked hard so his wife and children could enjoy the toys that he brought home for them as well as family vacations, most of which were all last minute decisions. Money had no value to him and family was very important. He helped out his children financially whenever needed and loved to travel and see all the beautiful scenery he could. Dad loved to go hunting, camping, fishing, boating, snowmobiling, and especially watching his son’s race at Gimli. He also loved to ride his motorcycle and was proud to ride with his kids. Dad always made time to visit and have coffee with family and friends. His home and heart were always open to everyone. Dad generously shared one Christmas Eve when he gave his brothers and brothers-in-law G.D.P. jackets and hats, and later on gave them each a swinging park bench. Dad and Mom took their last trip together with friends to visit his daughter and son-in-law’s soon to be residence near Prince George, B.C. Dad was happy to see where his little girl would be moving and was at peace with her move, knowing that he would be with her wherever she lived. His last day was spent at the races in Gimli doing one of the last things he enjoyed. He loved the Lord with all his heart and made sure he lived life to the fullest. His memories will forever and always live on in our hearts. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2006 at 2:00 pm at the Grunthal Bergthaler Church with internment to follow at the Grunthal Cemetery. Viewing will take place on Wednesday, September 6 at 7:00 pm at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB. If friends so desire donations may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association; 200 – 310 Broadway; Wpg., MB R3C 0S6
