Don D. Toews passed away at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, MB on Sunday, September 10, 2006 at the age of 72. Don was born June 13, 1934 in Satanta, Kansas. His family moved to Manitoba when he was six years old. Don married Martha Friesen August 26, 1956 in Kleefeld, MB and has lived in and around the Steinbach area ever since. Don is survived by his wife Martha, children: Sharon (Dennis) Broesky, Gary (Brigitte), Kelvin (fiancé Jennifer Nakonechny), Curtis (Joanne Courcelles) and Patricia; grandchildren: Jordan, Kelly, Dustin, Matthew, Eric; brothers Eldon, Alfred (Jean-Anne) Gerard; sisters: Norma (George) Renz, Emelyn (Roy) Penner and sister-in-law Irene Toews. He was predeceased by his parents Isaac and Marie Toews, his brother Bill and sister-in-law Joyce. Don founded several local businesses including Don’s Bakery, Bake World, The Pop Shoppe and Gardencrete Lawn Ornaments. His retirement years were spent in “Grampa’s Workshop”, attending various craft shows with “Mart” at his side or in the coffee shops visiting with his many friends. A time of remembrance will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB on Wednesday, September 13 at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held Thursday, September 14 at 2:00 p.m. at the Grace Mennonite Church, 430 Third St, Steinbach with interment at the Heritage Cemetery.
