<p>Annie Klassen Plett was born on July 29, 1924 to Elizabeth and David Klassen in Heuboden which is present-day Kleefeld. Annie was sixth in line of 11 children, two of whom passed away in infancy. She and her sisters were known as &ldquo;the seven sisters&rdquo;.</p> <p>Annie attended school in Ekron southeast of Steinbach and achieved grade 6 at age 13. She wanted to continue going to school but the books were not affordable for her parents. Annie started working outside of the home at the age of 11 for $4 a month. At a young age, Mom received the gift of salvation at Sunday School and was baptized at the age of 18 at an evening church service in Blumenort.</p> <p>At the age of 21, Annie started working at Bethesda Hospital where she earned $30 a month. She took sewing courses and became an excellent seamstress sewing everything from underwear to winter wear to formal wear for all of her children. Annie also worked at a canning factory in Ontario for two summers.</p> <p>Mom married our dad John Plett on July 31, 1949. Together they had four sons and three daughters, and three babies which miscarried. Growing large vegetable and flower gardens, cooking delicious meals, recycling everything and quilting were Mom's amazing gifts. She loved listening to the Hour of Hymns and church services on the radio.</p> <p>Mom was predeceased by her sisters Agnes, Mary, and Betty and sister-in-law Margaret. Mom was also predeceased by grandson, Daniel in 2014, son Lawrence in 2015 and son-in-law Menno in 2019. Mom is survived by husband John, sisters Katherine, Gertie, and Lillian (Lorne) and brothers Pete (Lottie) and Jake (Rose), as well as immediate and extended family. (See family tree).</p> <p>The day after her birthday, Mom had a late-night fall at her bedside.&nbsp; On Thursday, August 2, 2019, with her family by her side, Mom passed peacefully, reaching the age of 95 years and four days.
