Peacefully, on March 8, 2000 at his home with his wife and son at his bedside, Peter H. Bergen, aged 92 years and ten months of Steinbach, passed away into the arms of Jesus. Besides his loving wife Susana (nee Wiens) of 73 years, he leaves to cherish his memory. two sons; Abe of Errington, B.C.; Bill and Tina of Steinbach, four daughters; Tena and Art Spencer, Steinbach; Trudie and Bill Ringer, Winnipeg; Margaret Friesen, Steinbach; Mary and Jake Harms of Steinbach; and son-in-law John and Nettie Friesen of Grunthal; 22 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was predeceased by one daughter Sarah Friesen in 1994 and son-in-law George Friesen in 1990. Also two grandchildren; Alma and David Friesen and two great grandchildren; Jessica and Christopher Sawatsky. Also surviving are three brothers; Henry of Campbell River, B.C.; Cornelius and Katharina of Paraguay; Jacob and Helen of Halbstadt, MB.; Two sisters; Maria Loeppky of Austin, MB; Margaret Unrau of Burnaby, B.C. and 1 brother –in-law, Abram Penner of Winnipeg. Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 12 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church at New Bothwell with Rev. Henry Schroeder officiating. Interment took place in the church cemetery.
