Katherine (Siemens) Unger, our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother went home to meet her Savior on April 16th at the age of 92 years and 6 months. She was born November 18, 1907 in the Steinbach District to David and Sarah Siemens. She was baptized at the age of 16 in Rosenhof. Mom & Dad were married in 1938. God granted them 12 1/2 happy years together during which time they had two daughters, Sarah (Mrs. Wilbert Barkman) and Kathy (Mrs. Gordon Kroeker). A few years after dad passed away in 1951 she moved her family to Steinbach where she went to work doing housework for others and baby-sitting. She will be remembered as a loving, caring mother whose love and compassion went beyond her home. She loved her Lord dearly. Her family and grandchildren were of utmost importance to her all through life. In her last years she often expressed her desire to go to her eternal home. She is survived by her two daughters and their families: Sarah (Wilbert) Barkman, Kathy (Gordon) Kroeker; five grandchildren and their spouses: Darrel and Bertha Barkman, Curt and Gloria Reimer, Walter and Sandra Peters, Darren and Jennifer Martens, Clayton Kroeker, and six great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Bernhard in 1951, and one granddaughter, Laurie Lynn Kroeker in 1965. The funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 20 at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, with viewing prior to the service. Pallbearers were her grandchildren: Darrel Barkman, Clayton Kroeker, Darren Martens, Jennifer Martens, Gloria Reimer, and Sandra Peters.
