Charles Beresford Allen of Piney, Manitoba passed away at the Vita Hospital on June 15, 2000 at the age of 98 years and 9 months. Charlie was born in Abbeyleix, Co. Queens, Ireland to William and Alice (Morton) Allen on September 7, 1901. Charlie came to Canada with his parents in 1910 and has resided in the Piney area since 1911 when the Allen family homesteaded a quarter section of land north of Piney. Charlie and his late wife Edith carried on a mixed farming operation north of Piney where they resided for 55 years. Charlie also worked at a variety of forestry related jobs in the Piney area. He took out his last load of pulpwood at age 68. He was a dedicated member of the Piney Over 40 Club for many years. He hardly ever missed the Monday afternoon get togethers with all his long time acquaintances. In 1995 Charlie moved to the Vita Personal Care Home. He enjoyed the social activities and care offered at the Home but his desire was always to return to live on the farm at Piney. Charlie leaves to mourn daughter Barbara (Lawrence Szalanski), Cranbrook, B.C., grandchildren Allen (Shelly), and Sara, great grandson Aidan; daughter Margaret (Stan Kirkland), grandchildren Darcy and Genevieve; one sister Annie Reeves, brothers-in-law Leslie Churchill and Bill Low, sisters-in-law Violet Johnson, Nellie Zarn, Alice Zarn, Mollie Zarn and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Edith (Zarn) in May, 1998, his parents, brother Bert, sisters Florence Churchill and Elsie Garant and granddaughter Leanne Szalanski. Thanks to Dr. Azar and all the staff at the Vita Health Center for their kindness and care. Thanks to Jean Wiwchar for the many years of wonderful home care that she provided for our father. Thanks to all the relatives and friends who visited our father in his final years. May God bless you all.
