Obituary of Abram N. Esau

Peacefully on Friday, July 7, 2000 at the Resthaven Nursing Home in Steinbach, Abram N. Esau, passed away at the age of 82 years, less 2 days. Funeral service will be held at the Steinbach Chortitzer Mennonite Church on Tuesday, July 11, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Ed Wiebe officiating. Viewing will be on Monday, July 10th at Birchwood Funeral Chapel from 7-8 p.m. and prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Grunthal Cemetery. Abram was born July 9, 1918. He married Agatha Voth and together they operated the Grunthal Bargain Store, Saturday night Auction Sales and Precision Cutlery Importing, among other businesses. In 1987 they moved to Steinbach where they resided till their homegoing. Dad enjoyed camping and travelling. He enjoyed music very much and took great delight in playing his harmonica. Dad is predeceased by his parents; Abraham and Susanna, his wife Agatha, May 6, 1998, two sons, Bernie in infancy and Peter in 1984, one grandson David John Esau, one granddaughter Melissa Jane Toews, one great granddaughter Carlin Paige Esau, one brother and three sisters. He leaves to mourn his passing two sons; Abe (Trudy) of Kleefeld and Alvin (Valida) of St. Catherines, Ontario, one daughter-in-law Margaret of Grunthal, four daughters: Susan (Frank) Funk of Steinbach, Mary (Stan) Toews of New Bothwell, Irene (Walter) Toews of Steinbach, Rose (Dan) Klippenstein of Niverville, 24 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, two sisters, and one sister-in-law, one brother-in-law, many nieces and nephews and friends. Special thanks to Dr. Dyck and the staff at Resthaven for their excellent care. Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Roseau River Bible Camp.
