It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cornelius “Neil” Kauenhofen on Sunday, December 17, 2000 with his family at his side. After a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, he is now at rest in the arms of the Lord. Neil was born April 3, 1942 in Winnipeg to Bernard and Maria Kauenhofen. Neil was one of eleven children and was predeceased by his parents and brother Jake. Dad was baptized in Winnipeg at C.M.C. in May 1963. Later that same year he married the love of his life and partner Tina Martens to whom were born 4 wonderful children, all raised in landmark, MB. Dad was employed by the University of Manitoba for 34 years in the Animal Sciences Dept. He was forced to retire early when he was diagnosed with cancer. Dad loved his work, but his family always came first. Dad and Mom spent the past 6 weeks of his final battle in hospitals – 3 weeks in Winnipeg at the St. Boniface Hospital and 3 weeks at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach. Mom never left his side. Neil leaves to cherish his memory his wife Tina; sons Lorne and wife Susan, their 3 children Robyn, Matthew and Caitlynn of Mitchell, Wayne and wife Connie of Rosenfeld, Cindy of Steinbach, and Terri and her friend Bruce of Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Steinbach C.M.C. Air Conditioner Fund and/or to the Canadian Cancer Society. The Funeral Service for Neil Kauenhofen will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. at Steinbach C.M.C., 479 Hanover Street.
