Obituary of Yvonne Gisiger

Suddenly, on December 25, 2000, Yvonne Gisiger (Grenier) aged 78, passed away at St. Boniface Hospital. She leaves to mourn her husband Joseph, son Denis (Marlene Johnson) of Ile des Chenes, daughter Joanne Emes (Yems) and grandson Tyson Emes of St. Labre. She will also be remembered by Marlene’s daughter Sherri James (Darren), Wpg., son Jason Reimer (Marlow), Wpg., grandchildren John and Michael Reimer who know her as Pêpêre’s mom. She is survived by six brothers, Joseph Grenier (Rolande), Wpg., George Grenier (Irene), St. Labre, Paul Grenier, Wpg., Hubert Grenier (Stella), St. Labre, Rosaire Grenier, St. Labre, Norbert Grenier (Lorraine), Port Coquitlam, BC, six sisters Alphonsine Mondor, Lorette, Angeline Gagnon, Wpg., Laurette Fontaine (Lucien) , Wpg., Ester Gagnon (Louis) La Broquerie and Denise Tourond (Adelard), Woodridge. Also Luc Gisiger (Lucille), Jean Gisiger (Jean Moore), Elise Richard, Marguerite Gisiger, Angêle Gobin (Antoine), Helene Gregoire and many nieces and nephews. Yvonne was predeceased by one infant son Noël, one brother Paul, two sisters Clemence Comeault (Denis), Noëllia Gerardy (Robert), two sisters-in-law Annette Grenier (Rosaire) and Noëlla Grenier (Paul) and three brothers-in-law Alexis Richard (Elise) , Louis Gregoire (Helene), and Octave Mondor (Alphonsine). Yvonne was born in St. Labre on June 18, 1922. She grew up and went to school in St. Labre. Eventually, she moved to Winnipeg, where whe worked for several years. She then returned home to St. Labre and married Joseph Gisiger in 1957. They operated a dairy farm together until retiring in 1987 when they moved next door and remained living there until her passing. In lieu of flowers, donations in Yvonne’s memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. A special thank you to Maurice and Susan for all their help. Thanks to the St. Pierre ambulance service for a speedy response and caring attendants, and to the St. Boniface emergency team and pastoral dept. Your compassion was greatly appreciated. Thank you to all the friends and relatives who helped her maintain an independent life style over the last few years. Funeral Mass was held Saturday, December 30 at the St. Benoit Labre Catholic Parish in St. Labre, MB. Interment in the Parish Cemetery.
