Obituary of Harold Doerksen

Harold U Doerksen, went to be with his Lord on March 28, 2001 at the age of 62 years, following a difficult battle with cancer. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 37 years, Catherine (nee Doerksen), one son Alvin & Betty (Candace, Sherry, Jessica, Ryan, Jason & Cory) Doerksen of Morris, 3 daughters Stella & Ken (Chynessa & Micah) Harder of Ile Des Chenes, Edna & Bill (Samantha & Kassandra) Schroeder of Steinbach, and Rose & Norm Dyck of Carman. He is also survived by his mother Anne Doerksen of Niverville and ten brothers and sisters Elmer & Elizabeth Doerksen of Paraguay, Nettie Neufeld, Mary Johnson, Jake & Mathilda Doerksen, Eva Doerksen, Helen & John Friesen, Adina & Abe Friesen, Peter & Eva Doerksen of BC, Johnny Doerksen, and Henry & Nettie Doerksen. He was predeceased by one daughter Elaine in 1969 and his father Jacob F. Doerksen in 1985. He was also predeceased by two brothers-in-law Roy Johnson and Cornie Neufeld, both of whom died of cancer. Our Dad was born April 30, 1938 in Steinbach, MB. He moved with his family to Paraguay, South America in 1948 on the ship “Volendam.” He was baptized upon the confession of his faith in 1962, and married our mother Catherine on October 10, 1963. They continued to live in Paraguay where all five of their children were born. In 1978 they moved back to Canada where Dad worked at a variety of jobs, the longest of which was at Palliser Furniture in Wpg. He worked at Palliser for 18 years until he was disabled by cancer in March 2000. Dad enjoyed camping, woodworking and spending time with our families, especially his pride and joy, his grandchildren. Dad had a very difficult year filled with surgeries and radiation treatments for the cancer. In spite of the endless trips to see doctors and the pain, which he constantly endured, he would always say, “Oh I’m pretty good and how about you?” He particularly cherished his last six months when Mom was able to stay home and care for him. We miss you Dad but we’ll see you again in heaven. The Family The funeral service for Harold Doerksen will be held Monday, April 2, 10:00 a.m. at Village Gospel Fellowship, Niverville. Viewing will take place Sunday, April 1, 7 – 8:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel and at the church prior to the service.
