Obituary of Linda Penner

Linda Isaac Penner was born to Peter W. and Catherine P. Isaac on March 2, 1921 at Linden, Alberta. On the morning of Wednesday, September 25, 2019, she peacefully passed away, reaching the age of 98 years.

Linda grew up on the family farm at Linden, Alberta. Her education included finishing several courses of grade 10. She accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized November 25, 1934. Before marriage, she had a variety of jobs including camp cook, telephone operator, café owner, housekeeper, and teacher. She spoke fondly of her time at Rocky Mountain House where she met her husband-to-be.

On June 23, 1954, Linda married Aron G. Penner. They enjoyed forty-six years together. Aron’s family farm at Landmark, Manitoba became their home. They made their living by earth moving and chicken farming. Mom worked hard, caring for and raising their children. Mom cooked delicious meals for her family, the construction crews, and everyone that showed up at the dinner table. In their retirement years, Dad and Mom traveled to many spots around the world. They had a variety of friends.

Mom was an active, talented, people-loving person. Christian life was very important to her. One of her last statements was, “It’s my desire to be saved.” This was also her wish for the many people whose lives she touched. On March 14, 1964, a train/car accident claimed the lives of three sons, leaving an emptiness in the family. Mom loved her family and was enthusiastic about their lives and accomplishments. Her favorite pastimes were visiting, traveling, doing handwork, and playing Scrabble. One of her accomplishments was writing her autobiography. She volunteered many hours, including sewing blankets and helping at Ten Thousand Villages.

Those left to cherish precious memories are her children: Ron & Marcella of Gilbert Plains, MB; Gail of Landmark, MB; Dean & Carolyn of Steinbach, MB; Abe & Liz of Wheatley, ON; Ivan & Rhonda of Landmark, MB; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Gladys Isaac. She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, three sons: Keith, Byron, and Johnny; five brothers, and two sisters.

The family wishes to express appreciation for all the prayers and encouragement received from family and friends. Thank you for coming and sharing this time with us.

Viewing will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2019, at 7:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 30, 2019, at 10:30 a.m., at Prairie Rose Evangelical Mennonite Church, Landmark, MB, with viewing held one hour prior to the service.

Burial will take place at Prairie Rose E.M.C. Church Cemetery.

Donations in memory of Linda may be made to Mennonite Central Committee.
