Obituary of Annie Goossen

Our loving Mother, Grandmother & Great-Grandmother was born to Jacob & Elizabeth Rempel on January 1, 1928. She passed away with family at her bedside on Saturday, September 28, 2019, at Maplewood Manor in Steinbach, Manitoba. Mom lived a full life reaching the age of 91 years.

Mom accepted Christ as her personal Saviour, upon forgiveness of sins, she was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on December 27, 1942. Her quiet faith was precious to her and she remained faithful to her vows until the end of her life. The day before she passed away, she expressed her desire to go to Heaven.

Mom grew up near Rosenort, Manitoba, receiving her education in the Rosenort School. As a young lady she learned the art of homemaking and also one highlight was spending a few months working at a Cannery in St. Catherines, Ont.

Mom gave her hand in marriage to our Dad, Harold Goossen on February 18, 1951. To their union came one son, one daughter and one permanent foster son, as well as two other foster children, Ronnie and Denise. Mom & Dad enjoyed almost 67 years together until Dad passed away in January of 2018. Mom couldn't understand why Dad had left her here alone but as time went on she learned to adapt.

Our Mom loved us children deeply and she gave exceptional loving care to our foster brother Raymond. Her patience and understanding of him was one only she could do.

Mom preferred the simple things in life. With her gift of hospitality, she made meals that were delicious but not fancy. In her gardening she planted only the basic necessary things and three or four kinds of flowers were plenty for her. We had a very contented mother. Mom was a woman of few words but everyone that knew her, knew that she loved them, connection with her siblings and nieces and nephews was important to her, seldom missing the chance for a phone call especially on their birthdays.

Mom and Dad spent several years doing mission work in Hague, Saskatchewan and also at the East Gate Children's Home in Winnipeg, Manitoba. These years were a special time in Mom's life.

Those left to cherish special memories are: one son Galen & wife Lois, Benito Manitoba; one daughter Lenora & husband John Edwards, Hamilton, Montana; four grandchildren: Kristin Penner, Joel & Rebecca Goossen, Jared & Tessa Goossen, and Kaylee Goossen; three great-granddaughters: Cassidy, Nova and Brookelyn.

She is survived by one brother: Bill & Janet Rempel, one sister: Caroline & Herbert Goossen, sisters-in-law: Dorothy Rempel, Edna Rempel, and Marina Rempel. Also, Dad's sisters: Marie Toews, Mae Toews, Evelyn & Leonard Penner, Pearl Thiessen and sister-in-law: Marlena Goossen.

She was predeceased by her husband, foster son Raymond, five brothers and three sisters.

The family wishes to express their appreciation and gratitude to the staff of the Maplewood Manor for their loving and wonderful care of Mom for the past two and a half years. A big thank-you to Kristin, Cassidy and Nova for being Mom's joy every Tuesday and Thursday. Mom always looked forward to those days.

The evening service will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2019, at 7:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at Rosenort Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Rosenort, MB, followed by interment at the church cemetery.
