Obituary of Jacob J. Dyck

Surrounded by loving family, Jacob (J.J.) Dyck, 82 of Springstein Manitoba, passed away peacefully at Grace Hospital April 24, 2001. He is survived by his wife Anne (Schlichting), 3 children: daughter Edith (Peter) Thiessen of Dalmeny SK, son Gerald (Susan) Dyck of Springstein, MB, daughter Katherine (Lee) Gregory of Fisher Branch, MB; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; Ryan and Carie Thiessen and their children Joyelle, Dean & Alex, Rachel, Robert, Breanne and Bethany Thiessen; Corinne, Eric and Carlee Dyck, Adam Jenna and Aaron Gregory.) 3 sisters Helen Harder and Mary (George) Harder of BC, Nettie (Peter) Dyck of Headingly, MB, numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. Kind and gentle, full of humor, low chuckling laughter, the eternal optimist, always ready to affirm; slow to speak until he had something worthwhile to say; Faith like a Rock, quick to forgive and apologize when necessary; not given to being overly emotional but giving his big hand heartily in a friendly warm grasp. A farmer all his life, he remained true to his 'calling' to the end. A lover of nature (his ducks came back to the pond a few days before he died), he planted trees and shrubs and was duly proud of his farmstead, a proud father and grandfather, husband and friend. J.J. was also an avid reader of history and true-life adventure. It has been said that the true legacy of a man is in the good memories he leaves behind. If that is true, then J.J. was a rich man indeed! We will miss him – “Rest in peace Dad.” The funeral service will be held at the Springstein Mennonite Church on Monday, April 30, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. Viewing prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations maybe made to Canadian Food Grains Bank.
