Obituary of Ed D. Harder

Ed Harder was born to Erdman and Anne on May 23, 1944, in the R. M. of Tache, MB. He suffered a heart attack on November 12, 2001 at his home and remained in a coma until his passing on November 21. He died peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 57 years and nearly six months. Dad married Mom, Margaret Froese, on July 2, 1966. In 35 years of marriage, they saw sickness and health, struggles and joy. Early in their marriage, they moved to the farm where Dad grew up in Silberfeld, near Landmark. He continued farming until 1995 when they moved to Steinbach. In the last few years he worked at Granny’s Poultry. Dad always worked hard and had to keep busy. He gave his all in whatever he did. Dad taught Sunday School at Silberfeld CMC Church for many years, as well as serving in many other church activities. Dad was a quiet gentle man whose prayer and desire was to see each member of his family in Heaven one day. He will be missed and remembered with love and respect by his wife Marge; daughters Shirley and Daryl Martens (granddaughters Asia and Sydney, grandson Mason), Kimberly Harder, Connie and Zac Rattana, all of Abbotsford, BC, twin sons Stanley Harder of Steinbach, Stacey and Amanda Harder of Winnipeg; sisters Nancy and Ed Elias of Calgary, AB, Betty and Don Plett of Landmark, Marlene and Walter Steingart of Calgary, AB, their families and many very special friends. He was predeceased by his parents Erdman and Anne Harder and one brother in infancy. We would like to thank all our friends who prayed and stood beside us during this difficult time. We greatly appreciate all those who helped Dad: those who called 911, ambulance attendants, Bethesda Hospital, St. Boniface Intensive Care Unit and the Palliative Care Unit. The funeral service for Ed Harder was held Saturday, November 24, 2001 at Silberfeld Chortitzer Mennonite Church with Pastors Sam Doerksen, Ron Friesen and Bishop Dick Wiebe officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Should Friends so desire, donations in his memory may be made to Fraser Valley Child Development Center or CMC Missions Fund.
