Obituary of Margaret Neufeld

On Monday, December 17th, 2001, at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, Manitoba, Margaret Neufeld slipped peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus. Margaret was born January 18th, 1910 on the family farm in Schoenwiese. She was the eldest daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Doerksen. She married Edmund H. Neufeld on October 26th, 1941. The year 2001 was the 60th wedding anniversary of this remarkable couple. Left to cherish Margaret’s memory is her loving husband Ed, and her daughters Dorinda Merritt (Claude) and Elizabeth; her sister Helen K. Neufeld; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her infant son John, and by sisters Katherina Blatz, Elizabeth Barkman and Maria Toews, and brothers, John, Peter and Abe Funk, and, Jake Doerksen. Margaret was a religious person. She talked with her best Friend and Savior Jesus Christ every day. Every waking minute was devoted to Him. Although we grieve for Margaret, the sorrow is ours, not hers. She so wanted to meet Jesus and on December 17 she was given her life-long wish. Jesus has now taken her into His arms and has granted her peace. We know she will be happy for eternity in Heaven. Margaret had many hobbies including tatting, sewing and baking but her love was her garden. She had a large vegetable and flower garden and was forever supplying friends, neighbors, family and the Steinbach Self-Help Center with fresh vegetables. Just this spring at 91 years old she insisted on sowing her garden and happily reaped the rewards of her labor. The family would like to thank Doctor Karen Toews and staff at Bethesda Hospital for their gracious care of Mom. We would especially like to thank Lynn Barkman, Mom’s first floor nurse, who not only provided the best care for Mom but also provided compassion and care to Dad as he grieved the illness and eventual loss of his dear Margaret. A celebration of Margaret’s life was held on Thursday, December 20th, at 2:00 pm at the Steinbach Chortitzer Mennonite Church. Interment was at the Mitchell cemetery. As long as we live we will miss our Mom but we will be content in the knowledge she is now in the arms of Jesus.
