Obituary of Bertha Rempel

Bertha Rempel (nee Neufeld) It is with great sorrow that we announce that Bertha Rempel passed away peacefully on Friday, November 24, 2006 at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, MB. Mom was born to Jacob and Anna Neufeld on May 10, 1932 in the Tache Municipality. She married our father Bernard Rempel on October 26, 1952 in Steinbach, MB Surviving her is her loving husband Bernard Rempel, her mother Mrs. Anna Neufeld and her children Bill (Linda) Rempel, Bob (Lucille) Rempel, Diane (Dave) Schroeder and Jack (Debra) Rempel, her grandchildren Christiana (Ryan) Graham, Jocelyn Rempel, Amy Rempel, Rhea (Chris) Logan, Jerome Schroeder, Joshua (Sara) Schroeder, Jennice (Andrae) Plett, Garreth (Giancarla) Rempel, Dana Rempel, Jessica Rempel and Cassandra Rempel, her great grandchildren Caily, Zachary and Abigail Graham. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters Ida (Abe) Doerksen, Mary (Harry) Friesen, Pete (Helen) Neufeld, John (Martha) Neufeld, Agnes (Neil) Kehler, Ben (Jean) Neufeld and Hank (Shirley) Neufeld and their families and Bernard’s family Jake (Anne) Rempel, Peter Rempel, Dora (Bill) Dyck, Helen (John) Banman and Martha (Ben) Peters and their families. She was predeceased by her father Jacob Neufeld, her brother-in-law Eddy Thiessen, her sister-in-law Shirley Rempel and her parents-in-law Peter and Aganetha Rempel. Mom was baptized on the confession of her faith in 1952. Mom’s ultimate concern has been the salvation of her family, friends, neighbours, community and all nations. Her concern was demonstrated by her interest and support of missions. When we dropped by unexpectedly, we often found mom meditating on her Bible and listening to her favorite spiritual radio programs. She enjoyed hosting missionaries and guest speakers from their church while they visited congregations in the Steinbach area. After serving faithfully in their church for numerous years, mom and dad obeyed their calling to serve as Deacons from which they recently retired. Mom loved to plan and organize family events and recently assisted in planning her mother’s 100th birthday celebration. Before her marriage she worked at the St. Amant Centre in Winnipeg where she met our father. She later worked at the Eaton’s Department Store in Winnipeg, as a health care aide at Rest Haven Nursing Home, and at the Association for Community Living. We will miss our mom’s courageous spirit and her sense of humor, her wonderful cooking and baking, her sewing and mending and her competitiveness in the many board games which she challenged us at. Mom was a selfless individual and she always enjoyed fussing over her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Our family would like to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Krahn and the nursing staff at the Bethesda Hospital who provided excellent care to mom and to us. We would also like to thank our many family members and friends who have stood behind us in prayer and cared for us during this time. Public viewing will take place at Birchwood Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, November 28, at 7:00 PM with a devotional at 8:00 PM. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 29, at the Chortitzer Mennonite Church, 479 Hanover Street, Steinbach, at 2:00 PM, with interment at Heritage Cemetery. “We love you mom, and you will always be near to us in our thoughts.” If friends so desire, donations in Bertha’s memory may be made to Southeastman Health Palliative Care Program, Box 88; St. Pierre, MB R0A 1V0
