Katie Nikkel (nee Bartel) February 1934 – December 2006 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Katie Nikkel, Sunday, December 10, 2006 at the Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach, MB. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Jacob Nikkel, one son Dennis and Shirley Nikkel (Theresa, Stephanie, Jennifer), three daughters, Elsie and Russ Lemke (Shawn and Sadie Hoffarth, Tyler and Chad Lemke), Hilda Nikkel, Eleanor and Rod Friesen (Brittany and fiancé William Thiessen, Justin). Also remembering her are: four brothers, one sister and their families. Katie was predeceased by her parents David and Elizabeth Bartel, one sister, one brother, two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law. Most sincere thanks go to Dr. Ilchyna, Dr. Krahn, the nursing staff and cancer care staff at Bethesda Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion. Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel on Thursday, December 14 at 7 p.m. with a devotional to follow at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be at Elim Mennonite Church in Grunthal on Friday, December 15 at 2 p.m. with interment to follow at the Grunthal Cemetery.
