Obituary of Jacob J. Wiens

On a bright sunny and cold Sunday morning, January 14, 2007 at Bethesda Hospital, Jacob J. Wiens, 94, passed away to be with his Creator forever. He is lovingly remembered by Mary (nee Penner), his wife of 59 years, his sons Alvin (Anne), Carl (Lydia), Leonard (Ingrid), Eric (Teresa), his daughter Marian (Ian), 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren as well two brothers John (Anne) and Nick (Anne). Jacob was born in Schoenfeld, Russia on September 5, 1912. He eventually emigrated from his homeland to the new country of Canada and settled in Glenlea, MB in 1927. He was baptized on his confession of faith on June 2, 1934 and was a devoted follower of Jesus and has left that legacy with his family. Jacob worked hard to provide for his family. He was passionate about his work as a farmer and taught much about stewardship and caretaking. We as a family would like to express our deep gratitude to the home care team that helped with the final weeks and months of Dad’s journey. You gave a sense of relief and peace of mind. Also a special thank you to Dr. Thiessen for his excellent medical management and the staff at Bethesda Hospital Main Floor for their care and kindness. Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, on Thurs, January 18 at 7 p.m. with at devotional at 7:30 p.m. A celebration of Jacob’s life will be held at the Steinbach Mennonite Church, January 19 at 2:30 p.m. with interment at Heritage Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to MCC Manitoba to support the ongoing HIV/AIDS Project in Africa; 134 Plaza Drive; Winnipeg, MB R3T 5K9.
