On February 13, 2007, our mother, Mary Friesen of Fernwood Place, Steinbach, MB, passed away peacefully after a brief illness at the Bethesda Hospital at the age 97 years, 28 days. She was predeceased by her husband, Abram J.J. Friesen in 1988, one great-grandson in infancy, as well as her parents, Abram S. and Maria (Sawatzky) Rempel of Gnadenfeld, in the Altona area. Mom will be lovingly remembered and missed by her five daughters and two sons: Mary (John) Wiebe, John (Tina), Helen (John) Klassen, Abe/Max (Esther), Rose (Ben) Esau, Linda (Pete) Froese, Anne (John) Neufeld, 23 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Dr. Horne for his many years of care for our Mom, and also for the compassion shown to our mother by the first floor nursing staff during her two-week stay at Bethesda Hospital. We would also like to thank the home care staff at Fernwood who served her so faithfully. Viewing will be held Friday, February 16 at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the Chortitzer Mennonite Church, 479 Hanover, Steinbach on Saturday, Feb 17 at 2:00 p.m. with interment at Memorial Cemetery.
