Obituary of Anna R. Funk

Anna R. Funk (nee Klassen), aged 88, passed away to be with her Lord and Saviour, on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, MB. Anna is survived by one daughter, Elma (John) Raue of Burnaby, B.C. and their son Eric, two sons, Walter (Cam) Funk of Nanaimo, B.C., and their children Kim (John) Slomnicki, Tammy (Sherman) Berg, Murray Funk, Dean Driver and Darren Driver, Harry (Shirley) Funk of Steinbach and their children Kevin (Melanie) and Christopher; great grandchildren, Amber Slomnicki, Justin and Aleck Berg, and Deni and Danielle Driver. She is also survived by one sister Esther Funk of Steinbach. She was predeceased by her husband Abram R. Funk (1981) and her granddaughter, Amanda Raue (1984). Anna was born November 14, 1918 in the Chortiz area. She was baptized May 28, 1939 in the CMC Church in Chortiz and on July 6, 1939, she married Abram R. Funk. Mom was granted 85 relative healthy years and only had health issues her last few years including shingles, heart disease and finally cancer. She and Dad were married for 42 years and she spent the last 26 years as a widow. They built a house on land they bought from her Dad in Chortiz and in 1949 they moved to New Bothwell. In 1956 they bought the New Bothwell store and after three years they moved to Steinbach to operate Funks Radio & Electric. Mom worked tirelessly beside Dad as his health limited him from lots of physical work. After Dad retired Mom worked at Stylerite Department Store, Economy Hardware, Friedensfeld Community Centre and the MCC Thrift Store. She spent many hours sewing blankets and oven mitts for selling at the MCC Thrift Store. Mom loved to travel and went on many bus tours with her sisters and friends. She and her sisters loved to sing and she enjoyed doing cross word puzzles, reading and watching her game shows. She was a strong spirited woman who read her bible daily. She was a great mother and loved her family and friends. We will miss her dearly. Special thanks to Dr. M. Thiessen and all the wonderful staff at the Bethesda Hospital as well as all the special people who touched her life in her final weeks at the hospital. The funeral for Anna R. Funk will be held on Monday, March 12th at Birchwood Funeral Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Viewing will be held on Sunday, March 11th, Birchwood Funeral Chapel, at 7:00 p.m. with a short devotional at 7:30 p.m. Burial at Heritage Cemetery Donations may be made to the MCC Thrift Store, 409 Main St., Steinbach, R5G 1Z6.
