Obituary of David Hiebert

<p>David Hiebert, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, October 19, 2019, with our family gathered around his bedside, at Rest Haven Nursing Home, at the age of 81.</p> <p>Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife Mary, three daughters and one son. Marilyn (Irvin) Funk, Beverly (Darryl) Funk, Mark (Angela) Hiebert and Connie (Doug) Hamm. As well as 12 grandchildren and their spouses and nine great-grandchildren.</p> <p>David Alfred Hiebert was born August 3rd, 1938 to David and Susanna Hiebert in Steinbach Manitoba. He entered into his Heavenly Fathers presence on October 19th, 2019 at 8:19 a.m.</p> <p>Our Dad accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of 19, after listening to a Billy Graham crusade on the radio.&nbsp; He sensed God calling him as he listened to the message.&nbsp; He was baptized on the confession of his faith in 1959 and continued to live out that faith.&nbsp; Dad followed his Lord with all his heart through his lifetime. Us kids knew him for his unfailing patience, gentleness and grace.&nbsp; He was generous and ready to help out anyone in need.</p> <p>Dad grew up in Grunthal, Manitoba, and was the oldest of 7 children. He spent this teen and early adult years working in the family egg grading business. Dad met the love of his life, Mary, when he was 18 years old. They were married May 1st, 1960.<br /><br />Over the next 20 years Dad had many business endeavours. In 1980, he settled into the fabric industry with our mom by his side. They opened Fays Fabric Villa in Steinbach. Dad found much joy in fixing broken things and over the years he fixed hundreds of sewing machines.<br /><br />Dad was an avid collector of coins and stamps. He also loved music and took much joy in singing to his Lord with great enthusiasm.&nbsp; Dad loved to travel, especially if he was flying to his destination.&nbsp; Dad and mom had many opportunities to travel south with family and friends.</p> <p>Church was very important to Dad. &nbsp; He rarely missed the opportunity to attend church.&nbsp; He was always involved in volunteering on the elder board and different committees.&nbsp; In the later years he volunteered as a door greeter together with our mom.&nbsp; He enjoyed his time, connecting with people as they came into church.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <br />In April 2013, our Dad was diagnosed with a condition in the brain which causes blood vessels to burst.&nbsp; Through this process, the brain function decreases.&nbsp; The past 6 &frac12; years we have seen our Dad slowly decline.&nbsp; Yet through his journey of losing his brain function, he never complained.&nbsp; He was always thankful and joyful.&nbsp; As a family, we felt so blessed by his strong faith and positive attitude!</p> <p>Thank you to our mom, who was Dad&rsquo;s full-time care giver until he moved into Rest Haven a year ago.&nbsp; Our mom has sacrificed so much to take care of him.&nbsp; Thank you also to the staff at Rest Haven who extended much love and compassion while they cared for our Dad this past year, especially for the gentleness and patience they extended to our family this past week, as we sat with our Dad.</p> <p>The Celebration of Dad&rsquo;s Life will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at Southland Church, Steinbach, MB, with viewing prior to the service.</p> <p>In lieu of flowers please direct donations to Bird River Bible Camp, a ministry of Southland Church.</p>
