Obituary of Clarence Falk

On Wednesday, October 23, 2019, Clarence Falk, age 68 years, passed away peacefully, at Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB.

Clarence leaves to mourn his children, Jarrod (Megan) and Eric (Andrea) as well as brothers, Norman (Connie), Gordon (Joanne), sister Beverly and grandson Ethan.

Clarence was predeceased by his father, David, and mother, Louise.

Clarence worked in the transportation industry for more than 30 years, first as a heavy haul truck driver and later in dispatch at Penner International. While Clarence enjoyed his work and the life it provided his family, his passion laid in flight. In his early adulthood his bookshelves were filled with titles such as The Glory of Flight, Spirits in the Sky, and Thunder in the Heavens. In his forties Clarence took his passion to the next level and enrolled in flight school at Harv’s Air in Steinbach Manitoba. After countless evenings pouring over textbooks and manuals and time in the cockpit with trainers, Clarence earned his pilot’s license. Over the next two decades, Clarence logged hundreds of hours in the pilot’s seat and developed many friendships with fellow pilots and flight enthusiasts. In 2007, along with friend John Giesbrecht, he travelled in a small four-seater plane from Steinbach, MB to Columbus, OH to attend the largest ever gathering of P-51 Mustangs in the world. After retirement Clarence donated his time to the Western Canada Aviation Museum in Winnipeg, earning honors from the organization for his dedicated service. Clarence surrounded himself with his passion, building a large collection of model airplanes, numbering in the hundreds, which he proudly displayed in his home. Many of these planes were lovingly hand painted by his son Eric.

Faith was an important part of Clarence’s life, where he was an active member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church often serving as an usher during Sunday services.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Bethesda Hospital as well as the support of family, friends and Pastor Terry Gudmundson who visited him over these past weeks and those who kept Clarence and our family in their thoughts and prayers.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, October 28, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Steinbach, MB.

Interment will be held at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB., with reception at the church following the burial.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Memorial Fund or Canadian Cancer Society – Manitoba Division 193 Sherbrook Street; Wpg., MB R3C 2B7.
