Obituary of Dick Toews

Diedrich (Dick) Toews of Dugald, Manitoba, most recently residing at Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home, Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at the age of 82. 

He was predeceased by parents Abe and Helena Toews.  He is survived by his wife of 59 years Jean and two children, daughter Sherry Richardson of Winnipeg, and her daughter Lindsey Richardson and son Kurtis Toews of Dugald, wife Suzanne and their daughter Victoria Toews.

Dick was born on September 4, 1937, one of 17 children, raised on a farm in Carmen, Manitoba. Dick and Jean resided in Dugald, Manitoba for 54 years and then moved to Winnipeg and over the past year and a half, Dad was lovingly taken care of by the staff at Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home.

He was a friendly, outgoing, family man, who never met a stranger and was passionate about sharing his faith and love for Jesus with anyone who would listen.  He unashamedly would express the love of God to everyone he knew and wanted all to know about the deep love of God for all His children.

Dick and Jean raised their two children Sherry Richardson (nee Toews) and Kurtis Toews in Dugald and faithfully attended the Oakbank Baptist Church every Sunday morning and evening.  During the midweek he was a Boys Brigade leader and attended Bible Study and for years was a deacon there.  He also financially supported many different ministries throughout his lifetime and had a strong desire to see the Gospel spread.

As a father his children knew that there was nothing their dad wouldn't do for them at a moments notice.  He was loving, supportive, generous with his time and would give the shirt off his back to anyone who asked.  He was also an incredible grandpa to his two granddaughters Lindsey and Victoria.  He was a mentor and a teacher to them in many ways and had the biggest heart for his two girls.  He will be incredibly missed by all his family but never forgotten.  His legacy is that faith in Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life.

The funeral service for Diedrich will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at Friends Funeral Home, 2146 Main St, Winnipeg, MB., with a private interment to follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Springfield, MB.
