Obituary of Darcy Calder

December 18, 1975 - February 12, 2020

Darcy was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, colleague and friend. He was taken home suddenly on the morning of Wednesday, February 12, 2020.

His absence is keenly felt by his family, friends and their community.  Darcy is survived by his wife, Christianna, and his four children, Micah, Joshua, Nathan and Elizabeth (Ellie); his parents, Glen and MaryAnne, sister Kristy Frovich (Jason) and brother Jeremy (Tracey), his nieces and nephews, Christianna’s parents, David and Mary Anne Washburn and brother Rick Washburn (Melissa).

Darcy was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and was raised on the farm.  He learned to drive a tractor at the young age of nine and drove the combine for a number of years, helping his dad.  Darcy attended Roseau Valley School, graduating in 1993 with honors and received the Governor General Medal of Honor.  Darcy attended the University of Manitoba before beginning his career as a customs broker for GHY International in Winnipeg.

Darcy met Christianna, his cherished wife, on a high school trip to France.  After a long-distance relationship and engagement, they were married July 29, 1995.  Darcy and Christianna committed their family to Jesus and were baptized together in 1997.  After international trips to Costa Rica, Haiti and Indonesia, they started to feel called by God to relocate abroad to be a blessing to the world.  Together, they moved their family to North Africa in August 2015.

Darcy used his business savvy to build a company coaching business leaders in successful business principles.  Darcy had an incredible impact through his business but also in the lives of others in his community.  He was Chairman of the Board of Maadi Community School, a dedicated member of Maadi Community Church, an avid member of the Maadi Runners and a steady encouragement to his friends and colleagues.  His doormen describe him as quiet and incredibly kind.  His business partner noted that Darcy was always talking about his wife and kids – it was clear they were his pride and joy.

Darcy’s presence will be missed.  We are grateful for the impact of his life on our community, we thank God for our time with Darcy and we rejoice that Darcy is in heaven, worshipping at the feet of Jesus, his Lord and Saviour.

The memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. at Winnipeg Evangelical Free Church, 500 Lagimodière Blvd, Winnipeg, MB. There will be a private family burial at Greenridge Cemetery, prior to the service.
