Obituary of Bill Chobotar

It is with profound sadness and a great sense of loss that we announce the passing of William (Bill) Chobotar. On Wednesday, March 4, surrounded by his loving family, Bill passed into the arms of his Saviour and is now resting peacefully in his eternal home.

Bill was born and raised in Sirko, Manitoba, the youngest of six children. He met and married the love of his life, Janet, 46 years ago and together they raised their two wonderful daughters in Woodridge.

Over the many years Bill held various jobs with the provincial government and his last employment was with Canada Border Services.

Bill loved baseball, bingo and going to the casino however his ultimate passion was spending time with the family he loved so dearly. Family gatherings were always such special times and included a combination of delicious food, playing cards, board games and the sharing of many laughs. Music also played an important role in Bill’s life.

The last six years of Bill’s life were spent at the Bethesda Personal Care Home in Steinbach, where he made many friends with both staff and residents.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Dora, his mother-in-law Irene Yvon, his sister Mary Sokoliuk, brothers Alex and John, brothers-in-law Paul Sokoliuk and Allan Yvon and sister-in-law Darlene Chobotar.

Bill is survived by his loving wife Janet, daughters Tammy (Carmen) and Rhonda (Carolyn), grandchildren Quenton, Keatyn and Liam, brothers Martin (Nell) and Walter (Frances), sister-in-law Carole Chobotar, brother-in-law Gordon (Erika), sisters-in-law Barbara (Earl) and Mona (Raymond). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Jessica Allen and all the staff at Bethesda Place for the excellent care and friendship that was provided to Bill during his time there.

A memorial service will be held for Bill on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 PTH 52 West, Steinbach Manitoba. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
