Obituary of Joan Annette Dudas

With sadness in our hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Joan Annette Dudas ( nee Gibson), on Saturday, April 25, 2020, at her home in Ste. Anne, MB., at age 76.

Left to cherish her memory are sister, Shirley Brolly (Denis), stepson, Joe Dudas, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many friends, especially her best friend Margaret, who will miss her deeply.

Joan was predeceased by her husband John, son Ricky Oberding, mother Cecelia Gibson, father Joseph Gibson, sisters Mary Adam (Lloyd) and Mildred Fierce (Charles) and great nephews Garth Olson and Daryl Menary.

Joan was born in Winnipeg, the youngest of 4 girls. She became a single mother at a young age, raising her son. She did not have an easy life, but she tackled every challenge presented to her and excelled at all her endeavours.

She worked in various grocery stores. In 1964, Joan started working for Safeway, where she stayed until 2003, when she retired as a manager in the meat department.

She loved gardening and was very knowledgeable. She and John owned greenhouses and every spring she took her holidays from Safeway to help sell bedding plants. This was a lot of hard work but was also a major social activity for her, as many friends and relatives would come by to visit and help out.

Joan loved animals and had many dogs throughout her lifetime (her “kids” as we called them.)

After retiring, she was very involved with the UFCW Retirees Club. Anyone who travelled on one of her casino bus trips knows how organized she was and how important it was to her that everyone had a great time. A very caring, compassionate, patient and friendly people-person.

For many years, Joan was a Blue Bomber season ticket holder. She would enjoy dinner and a game with her sister Mildred.

“Time for you to take a rest for all the hard work and good you have done on earth. Your memories will put a smile on our faces. You will be missed.”

Cremation has taken place and a private burial will take place at a safer time.

If desired, donations may be made in Joan’s memory to Diabetes Canada.
