Obituary of Abe Plett

Abe Plett, 78, of Steinbach, MB (formerly from Blumenort, MB) passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB.

He is survived by his loving wife Tina of 53 years, their three daughters - Cassandra (Gerald), Patti (Kevin), and Julie (Greg), four grandchildren: Kaia, Brittany, Josh, and Brady; two sisters: Freda (Dave), Mary; sisters-in-law Marie and Rose, and in-laws from Tina’s family.

He was predeceased by his parents Abram & Elizabeth Plett, sisters Nettie, Lisa, Tina, Esther, and brothers Henry, Tom, Jake, and Nick.

Abe’s early years were spent in the Greenland area on the family farm. The family moved to Mexico when he was 10 years old. As a young man, he helped out on the farm and later taught in a private school. He moved back to Canada in his early 20’s and got work doing road construction with Fast Brothers.

He was in a serious accident in 1965 and was hospitalized for two months where he met Tina Penner who was a nurse there. They were married within a year on November 26, 1966.

They both had a heart for missions and made plans to go to language school at Edinburgh Bible School. They were missionaries in Mexico from 1968 to 1977. Once back in Canada, his career included mechanic work, long-distance trucking, and teaching. He obtained his journeyman mechanic in the early ‘80s. He retired from PBX at the age of 65.

Dad loved music and played several instruments. He was most known for playing the autoharp. Dad started his own recording studio after he retired. Together dad and mom loved to watch Heartland.

Dad really treasured the friendships he made in Mexico and spent hours on the phone talking to them in his later years. He and mom also traveled to visit some of them. Dad made a point of calling his children and grandchildren regularly. They attended the Blumenort Community Church and really enjoyed the Sunday School class there.

We will all miss him dearly. He looked forward to his Heavenly home. We know Dad looked forward to reuniting with his loved ones who were already waiting in Heaven. We know they will be singing together!

A private family service will take place on Friday, May 8, 2020 at 3:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, with burial to follow at Blumenort Community Church Cemetery, Blumenort, MB.
