Condolences to Gary's family and friends. This from Richard Lazenby, a childhood friend from Madison Street in St James. Indeed best of friends at that young age. Even when our families both left Madison Street I recall cycling completing across Winnipeg to spend the weekend with him! But time takes its toll and we moved on. Thankful for a great life he had and wonderful family. See you later Gary, remember the fire in the woods!

My name is Bill Lazenby. We lived a few houses from Bob & Phyllis Swain in the 1950's & my parents, Grace & Vern Lazenby, became close friends with them. Gary's brother Keith & I, being around the same age, became good buddies & had a lot of adventures together. My brother was born the same year as Gary & as they grew older got to know each other. Eventually life got in the way & we went on separate paths but I never forgot the Swain family. They were an important part of my youth. As time went along I heard that Bob, Phyllis & Keith were gone & I often wondered what became of Gary. By the sounds of it he had a great life & a wonderful family. I would have loved to have known him as an adult. My deepest condolences go out to his family. He will be greatly missed by all those that had the good fortune to know him.

I'm so sorry to hear of Gary's passing. Gary was my very first childhood friend as his mother and my mother were friends as we lived about 4 doors down from each other on Madison Street. We were both the same age.
My family moved from Madison Street when we were about 6 years old but my mother and his mother remained friends and kept in touch. I remember spending a week at his house in Westwood when we were about 12.
I never saw Gary again until I took an evening class on computers in 1983 at Red River College to find out we were classmates. During those classes we reconnected and Gary tried unsuccessfully to get me a job at Homestead
He was a likable guy and I have fond memories of him.
Until we meet again!!
