Obituary of Tina Kauenhofen

With her children by her side we announce the passing of our mom and grandma, Tina Kauenhofen on June 25, 2020 at the age of 77.

Mom is survived by her four children: Lorne, Wayne (Connie), Cindy, Terri (Brent) and five grandchildren: Robyn, Lorne Matthew, Caity, Kumera, and Azeb. She is also survived by one sister, Helen, and two brothers: John, Peter and their families.

Mom was predeceased by her husband Neil, her mom and dad, and two brothers.

Mom was born May 21, 1943, in Barkfield, MB, to John and Tina Martens.  Mom spent her childhood years living in Linden, Mafeking, St. Catherine’s, and along highway 12 just outside of Steinbach.  At age 15 mom quit school to go clean house for a family in Winnipeg, and on September 15, 1963, at the age of 20 mom married Neil Kauenhofen in Steinbach, Manitoba.  They spent their first five years of marriage living in Winnipeg and during that time their first child, Lorne was born.  When living in Winnipeg mom worked at a sewing factory for many years, also at McLeod’s in shipping and receiving. They then moved to Linden where they spent the next 29 years.  While living in Linden Wayne, Cindy, and Terri were born.  During these years’ mom worked at the local school as custodian, she cleaned houses for various families, and then later moved into homecare.

In 1995, dad was diagnosed with Lymphoma cancer and in 1997, mom and dad made the decision to move to Steinbach.  Over the next few years mom and dad spent a lot of time in Winnipeg for cancer treatments and in 2000, after a courageous battle dad went to be with Jesus.  From the moment dad got sick, mom never left his side. Mom continued to work for homecare and then when she retired, she volunteered at Southeast Helping Hands.  Retirement didn’t last long as mom got a job as a guard with the RCMP in more recent years.  She really enjoyed her work there.

Mom was a very strong Christian and had been most of her life.  She was an amazing person!  She was strong, independent, loyal, compassionate, wise, loving and generous to name a few.  She would not hesitate to help anyone that needed it.  This help included organizing many fundraisers for various causes.

Mom was always an active member of her church.  She volunteered serving food at funerals and weddings, was an active member of the prayer chain, and even sang in the church choir.  Mom had several hobbies.  She loved to sew, embroider, fabric paint, knit and do ceramics.  She also wasn’t afraid to try new things.  Mom also loved to go to garage sales and have them herself.  She also really enjoyed going to Wayne’s auction sales.

A come & go viewing will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
