Obituary of Dan Brandt

Daniel H. Brandt passed away peacefully at the Menno Home in Grunthal on Thursday, July 16^th, 2020 at the age of 96 years and almost two months. Dan was born to Peter F. and Anna (Heidebrecht) Brandt in Rosenort, Manitoba on May 21st, 1924.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Helen of 74 years; one daughter Phyllis and husband Roger, three sons: Dennis and wife Bud, Ken and wife Debbie, Clarence and wife Karen, nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren with one on the way, and one brother. He was predeceased by his parents, three sisters and seven brothers.

Dad married the love of his life in June of 1946 and they spent their married life in Steinbach where their four children were born. His mechanical mind soon steered him to the local garages where he found his niche. For many years he was known as the "transmission and tune up man" for Penner Dodge and he enjoyed the challenge of diagnosing and then the satisfaction of seeing happy cars and customers drive off the lot.

After retirement Dad loved to putter around in his shop and yard. Mowing lawns, weeding the garden, watching the birds and making amazing Chinese checkers games for each of his kids and grandkids.  Dad and mom also enjoyed many sightseeing trips and visiting family in the US and Canada.

Church and music were also very important to him. He loved to sing and made many happy memories singing with his friends in quartets, the church choir and the local community choir. I am sure he has found his quartet partners in heaven by now and is singing with them again!  His love for music helped carry him through the tough times when his vision failed him and he could encourage himself with the many hymns he had memorized through the years. During the last couple of years his favorite times were singing with Mary and her crew at the Menno Home. Many thanks to the staff at the Menno Home who helped him navigate through the most challenging years of his life. Your love and care and spiritual help were so appreciated by Dad and us as family!   

A private family funeral service will be held on Friday, July 24, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
