Adeline and I want to share our condolences with Sue and the family. Gil was one of those larger than life characters who made our lives that much richer from having known him. He wasn't afraid to challenge our Christian traditions even when it made us uncomfortable. Gil I will sure miss visiting with you at the next Landmark Friendship Festival. You will be missed...

With deepest sympathies to you, Sue, Angela, Jodi, Laura, Robyn, and your families. I enjoyed learning how to make Gil's BLTs with crispy bacon and extra mayo 'just so' in the bakery!! May God be near to you as you remember your years together! Love Shari (Unger) Penner

I light a candle in celebration of Gilbert's life. He led a fairly unconventional life, one he felt comfortable with.
Lots of memories of him growing up kind of under our noses. As an aunt I was often tasked with baby sitting my sister's children.
At times very challenging! Gil spent a short time with us on the Toews family farm during his first winter. His parent's were working at a logging camp that winter. A lot of spoiling was done by his aunts and one uncle(Alvin) that winter.
His memory of feeling at one with his grandfather Toews as he worked on the land when he lived on the Toews family farm.
I felt he defied being categorized into a neat tidy box. I worried about him at times. I need not have. He was a good, kind human being in his own way. He was on his very own life path. Congrats Gil for that. I am sure your influence has and will spread far and wide. I am sure your spirit is still around. It will be for awhile; looking out for your family and your close friends as they mourn the loss of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother. I will be listening for you. Love Aunt Janet Toews
His persistence in believing in marijuana was finally rewarded with it being legalized in Canada! His continued use of it as medicine was vindicated many times.
His wearing of 2 pairs of glasses! Someone shared a picture of that on Facebook. Priceless!
I was and am very proud to call him my nephew.

Sue, I’m so sorry to hear that you’ve lost your sweet Gil! I heard he was sick and felt so bad for the struggles you both have gone through recently. I know that Al would agree that the vacation with you guys in Cabo was legendary! Your whole family has lost a sincere, loving character!
All my best, Lee Toews

My deepest condolences to Sue and family! Oh Gil, I’m going to miss you driving in our yard unexpectedly just to talk! We talked about anything and everything but most of all you talked about your love and devotion for your family! What I wouldn’t do to talk to you one last time! You have left a big hole in our lives that can and will never be filled! You will always be remembered and never forgotten. If we would all love like you did, this world would be so different, I love you Gil and May you Rest In Peace! I can’t wait to see you again!

I used to call him Uncle Gil growing up and we shared a birthday. Growing up he would call me on our birthday and he’d wish me a happy birthday and we’d chat a bit. I always thought that was sweet! This past birthday I Facebook messaged him Happy Birthday. But I didn’t get a response till six months later, he said he didn’t understand technology well enough and wished he’d seen the message earlier. I was happy to hear from him!
Rest In Peace Uncle Gil

My deepest condolences to the Gil Unger family on the loss of your loved one. I always admired Gil's dedication to his family and friends. I always appreciated chatting with Gil and respected his free thinking ways. He will be missed by so many, most especially by his family and close friends, but also by people like me who always looked forward to catching up with him every once in a while.
