Obituary of Eileen Margaret Reimer
It is with sadness that we, her children, announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Eileen Margaret Reimer (nee Toews) on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 of COVID 19, at the age of 90.
Eileen is survived by her three children: daughter, Patricia Penner, son, Mark (Valerie) Reimer and daughter, Gayle Reimer (David); grandsons: Peter, Warran and Jonah; granddaughters: Lauren and Jerica. She also leaves behind, her brother, Elbert (Lorraine) Toews, sister Elma (Willie) Schade and one sister-in-law Adrienne Toews, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Ben in 1996, one brother, Eugene Toews in 2012, and her father and mother, Peter and Anne Toews.
Eileen was born October 19, 1929 in a farmhouse in Myrtle, Manitoba. She was the eldest of four children.
Eileen moved to Steinbach with the family as a teenager. Due to her father’s illness at an early age, she supported her family with many part-time jobs during her teen years. Eileen subsequently developed a strong work ethic and the value of supporting family. She had a natural gift for music and displayed it well through violin and piano. Eileen was baptised upon her confession of faith at the Steinbach EMB Church at the age of 18. She went on to further her education and received her teaching degree. This led her to teach many children in various schools in Southeastern, Manitoba.
In 1956, our father noticed our mother working at the local Steinbach Ford Dealership. By the end of December of that year, they were married. They farmed together just north of Steinbach. During this period of time she was a homemaker, schoolteacher, a “farm wife” and raised three children, no easy task.
Eileen continued to live on the farm until the age of 85. Due to Parkinson’s and mobility issues, she moved into Bridgepark Manor where she enjoyed herself, made new friends and adjusted to a new way of life. The last two years were spent at Bethesda Place, Steinbach.
A special thank you to the nurses at Bethesda Place for their loving care during her last two years. The family wishes to express our gratitude to friends and family for your outpouring love and prayers for us during this difficult time.
