Obituary of Gerald Waldner

A beloved husband, father, son and brother Gerald Waldner passed away on Friday, October 9, 2020.

He will be missed by his wife, Joanne, his children, Jared, Jennifer, Alaina, Adrian, Jonah, Michael and Analise, his mother, Lena, his brothers and sisters, Lana (Tom), Debbie (Faz), Ruben, Joe (Mirriam), Frieda (Irvin), Julie and Edward. Nieces and nephews, both of the flesh and of the heart, numerous in number and equally heartbroken by this loss. A large extended family, both of the flesh and of the heart; cousins, adopted cousins, people he drew to himself with his charisma and the force of his personality. After he started Rosewood Welding, the people he worked with became his family also. This is their loss too.

Gerry was born and spent his early childhood in Huron Colony. His family moved to Aspenheim when he was a young adult. A multi-talented and precocious individual, he was given responsibilities beyond his years at an early age. He was a born leader and did it by example; he was never one to shy away from hard work. As he advanced in years, he advanced in stature too, in the lives of the people God gave him as family, community and friends.

We will remember him as larger than life. We have spent the days since his passing remembering and celebrating his life. The stories we tell ease our grieving hearts and calm our spirits. He will live on in our hearts and minds. He will never grow old.

But still, he is dust and to dust he will return. His spirit has returned to God his maker. We grieve, yet not as those who have no hope. We who shared the bond of the Spirit, faith in Jesus Christ as Lord, Saviour and King, look forward to and hope to join the saints of all the ages, around the throne, in the New Jerusalem.

His children remember him in these reflections: Our dad taught us to be independent. Taught us to not need help, but was always there if we needed it. Taught us to be hard working, but to have fun. He passed on his humour, his flair for the  dramatic, his love of the outdoors, and his curiosity about the world around him and how it worked.

We always believed he could do anything. There was no problem he couldn’t fix, no puzzle he couldn’t solve, no task too big for him to tackle. We will miss him more than words can say. It is a comfort to us that we all carry some part of him and we hope you see him in us. He will live on through us, as we strive to be the people he would want us to be.

A public come and go viewing will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2020, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Mitchell Community Centre, Mitchell, MB.

The private funeral service will be held on Friday, October 16, 2020, at 2:00 p.m.
