Ewen James (Jim) Scobbie was born on May 24, 1936, in the highlands of Scotland. Following high school, he apprenticed as a motor mechanic in Inverness, Scotland. At age 17, Jim committed his life to Jesus Christ as his Saviour and Lord. From that time on, he developed a keen interest in studying the Word of God and that became a lifelong passion. In 1957, Jim and some friends immigrated to Canada to study for Christian ministry at Winnipeg Bible College, and in 1958, Ena immigrated to Canada to marry Jim.
In 1963, Jim, Ena and their three oldest children immigrated to the United States and for the next 18 years Jim pastored three Evangelical Free Churches. In 1981, the family moved back to Canada where Jim served at Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church in Steinbach for 20 years full-time and also taught Pastoral Theology at Providence Seminary. Jim’s life passion was the health of the church, and his calling was to study and preach the Word of God.
Jim loved nature and was an enthusiastic nature photographer which brought him and his family much joy over the years. Jim loved all of his family deeply and was a truly loving and gentle father who taught his children well. He will be greatly missed by all.
