Dad was born in Montmartre, Saskatchewan on March 9, 1931 and moved to Ste. Anne, Manitoba when he was 16 years old. He started to work with Manitoba Hydro at a very young age and worked there for 42 years. He loved his job at Manitoba Hydro and also got to see pretty much all of Manitoba through those years.
He married Mom, the love of his life, on August 15, 1953 and started their family. Dad loved his sports, he loved the Montreal Canadians the most of all. He also cheered for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Montreal Expos (back in the day). His sons were hockey players and he was there to cheer them on whenever he could and also coached them a few years. He also spent a lot of time at the curling rink putting in volunteer time and was a great coach for us too with that game. Later on he loved to watch his grandsons and granddaughters play hockey and ringette and support all his grandchildren at whatever they did. He was a great husband, dad & pepere to us all. He was a lot of fun and loved to tease us all. We sure will miss that. After he retired he spent a lot time in the bush on their country property. He loved to clean the bush of dead fall and make firewood. He would cut, split and deliver to his many faithful customers. He spent countless hours doing this and when he couldn’t anymore he talked about it a lot, he sure missed doing that.
A private family memorial service is pending. The private family ash interment will take place at the Ste. Anne Parish at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Shorty may be made to the Children’s Hospital, 840 Sherbrook St, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0Z3.
The family would like to thank all the staff at the Villa Youville that work on Unit D that looked after Dad. You were also his family. You made his last years comfortable and he was happy.
We love you Dad, rest in peace
