Obituary of Jacob Wiebe

Our Dad, Jacob Wiebe, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at his residence, in Grunthal, MB., he was 6 days short of his 95th birthday.

He leaves to honor his memory, four children: Anne (John) Funk, Helen (Dave) Wiebe, Henry (Helen) Wiebe, daughter-in-law Phyllis Wiebe, Evelyn (Bill) Krahn, 13 grandchildren and their families, 29 great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Mary, 2013 son Harvey 2012 and granddaughter Michelle in infancy.

Dad was born December 8, 1925 to David and Agatha Wiebe. He had eight siblings, three who died in infancy, three brothers and two sisters who predeceased him in later years. Dad was the last surviving member of his family.

Dad married Mary Braun on July 19th, 1945. They shared the joys and sorrows of life together for 68 years. Most of their working years were spent on a farm. Dad held a few side jobs along the way.

Upon retirement, they moved to Grunthal, where they resided the rest of their days.

Mom and dad did a lot of visiting, a lot of fishing… they had opportunity to do some travelling…one of the highlights of their travels was a three-week bus tour to the east coast.

Dad was a man of few words, but he had a big heart. He was generous with his time and resources. Family was of utmost importance to him and he valued the close relationship he had with them.

Harvey's sudden passing eight years ago left a huge hole in mom and dad’s life. He had become a daily visitor and they missed him so much. With Mom passing a year and half later, that became more pronounced for dad.

As his congestive heart failure progressed, he became weaker and more fatigued. Dad began to long for his move to his eternal home. His wish has been granted.

Dad finished well and left a wonderful legacy.

1 Cor 2:9 reads, “no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him…” We have full confidence that dad, together with mom and Harvey, are experiencing that today.

Rest in peace Dad. You are loved!

We want to express sincere appreciation and thanks to; Dr Kaethler for your gentle care to our dad these past few years, the paramedics and RCMP Randy Belmore for your conscientious attention to our dad at the apartment,  Kris Bachmeier and Birchwood Funeral Chapel for your compassionate direction as you guided us through funeral preparations and to family and friends for your many expressions of kindness during this time.

The livestreamed private family service will be held on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with interment to take place at Grunthal Cemetery, Grunthal, MB.
