Obituary of Mary Sawatzky

Peacefully, at the age of 90, Maria (Mary) Sawatzky passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at the Menno Home for the Aged in Grunthal, MB. Mary Sawatzky was born on July 29, 1930 to her parents Henry and Aganetha Hildebrandt of Stuartburn, MB.

Mary is survived by her daughter Evelyn (Connor) and Carey Link, her sons Randy (Marion), Albert (Daphne) and their families. Mary is also survived by sisters, a brother and extended family.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Peter (1990), son Wayne (2018), 2 sisters, a brother and further extended family.

Mary grew up in the Stuartburn area, where she met her husband of 40 years Peter Sawatzky. Together they settled on a farm in Stuartburn where they raised their 4 children. Mary lived on the farm for more than 50 years until the untimely passing of her son Wayne.

With the increasing onset of dementia and the need for special care, Mary moved into supportive housing at Greendale Estates in Grunthal, MB. As Mary’s health continued to decline, she eventually moved to the Menno Home until the time of her passing.

The come and go viewing for Mary will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., due to Covid restrictions only 5 people may enter at a time and social distancing protocols along with masks are still mandatory. Please remain inside your vehicle until directed.

The livestreamed private family service will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
