Obituary of Mike Warkentin

Mike Warkentin, of Steinbach, MB, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on January 5, 2021, at age 65. He is greatly missed by his wife, Patricia, his children, Denae (Dan), Grant and Haley, as well as his grandchildren, Levi, Samuel and Joshua. He is also survived by three sisters, three sisters-in-law, five brothers-in-law and their families. Mike was predeceased by his parents and one sister.

Mike was born November 26, 1955, in Steinbach, MB, to Arthur and Sadie Warkentin. He was the youngest of five children. Even as a young boy he was a hard worker, washing dishes for his Mom as she ran her catering business out of their home. Mike and Pat were married in 1982 and they celebrated 38 years together in May 2020. He was a loving and kind husband, Dad and Grandpa. Mike loved spending time at the cabin and was almost always working on a project there with his brother-in-law, John. He also loved fishing or taking a refreshing swim in the lake after a sauna. He enjoyed downhill skiing and would head West at least once a year with family to ski in the mountains. He had an incredibly generous heart and was never afraid of hard work or a challenge. These traits were especially evident in his 41 years of work at K.K. Penner Tire Centers, Blumenort, MB. More than anything though, Mike loved Jesus. His simple, unwavering faith was a light to those around him and it was because of his love for Jesus that people were so important to him. He had a special way of making you feel noticed and appreciated. He will be missed by many.

It is with sad hearts we say goodbye for now, yet our hope is in Jesus Christ, our Saviour, and because of that hope we know this world was not Mike’s home.

John 4:13-14

Jesus said to her, "Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

A private interment will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2021.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mike may be made to the Bethesda Foundation or Steinbach Community Outreach.

A warm thank you to family and friends who brought meals, cared for and prayed alongside Mike and his family these last few months. Also, a special thanks to Dr. Curtis and Debbie Krahn, and the Steinbach Palliative Care and Home Care staff.
