Obituary of Edward Gottwald

Suddenly, at his residence, Edward (Eddie) Gottwald passed away at the age of 82.

Eddie was predeceased by his parents, Ferdinand and Martha Gottwald, and by his brothers Donald and Alfred. He was also predeceased by family members Gus and Ruby Baekeland as well as their son Richard.  

He is survived by his former sister-in-law, Sadie Sigurdson (Gottwald) as well as cousins Lisa Baekeland (Rob Quesnel) and Leanne Bremault (Ray) along with Siegfried Kreiner and family.

Eddie lived his entire life in South Junction.  Along with farming, the family was also known for construction, mechanics and sales and service to the community.  Eddie had a cheerful, friendly smile and loved socializing with family, friends and neighbours.  He had a wonderful childlike faith in everything and trusted those around him.  He believed in the good of others.  Eddie traveled to Austria several times to visit with his cousin and was always welcomed with open arms.  Eddie also enjoyed the various pets he had throughout his life.  They provided him with great companionship.

Eddie's interests included bowling, floor curling, playing games, cards and bingo.  He was very proud of his car show trophies from the annual Spraguefest celebration and enjoyed attending the Roseau County fair.

For their friendship, the family would like to thank Sadie and Connie Sigurdson, Mitch and Patty Gobeil, Ray Klassen, Paul and Sue Krahn, Liz and Rod Grahn, David Lavergne and Gwen and the late Charley Lavergne.  Eddie also dearly missed the late Ernie Klassen and Herb and Norma Simms. 

To all the friends, neighbours, and volunteers who took Eddie to church, to the meal programs, to appointments and shopping, your kindness is appreciated.

Heartfelt thanks go out to Mitch and Patty Gobeil, Constable Bunn and the Sprague RCMP detachment and the EMS crew from Vita for their efforts on Eddie's behalf.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Eddie's life will be held at a later date due to the current restrictions.
