Obituary of Edwin B. Reimer

Edwin Reimer was born February 1, 1936, in Steinbach, Manitoba, where he lived and attended school until the age of 12.  He then moved to Mexico with his family.

In his later teen years, he accepted Jesus as his Saviour and was baptized in the Quellen Colony Mennonite Church.

On August 25, 1957, he married Elisabeth Friesen.  They lived in Mexico until March of 1958, when they moved to Belize with a group of Mennonites from Quellen Colony.  Life in Belize was very different and difficult as they chopped a clearing in the jungle to build a colony.

 As time passed and the colony got settled, Edwin became interested in honeybees.  He bought some hives and built a lot of beehive supplies.

In 1975 they packed up and “temporarily” moved to Manitoba.  (Forty-five years later we are still here.)  They settled in Riverton where Edwin worked for a few different people before he once again set up beekeeping.

In 1993 they moved to Neepawa and continued beekeeping until he retired in 1998.

In 2004 they moved to Lowe Farm.  In retirement he read a lot, and they also traveled when they could.

Approximately 2016, Edwin was diagnosed with dementia, and as a result, plans were made to move them into town so he would be closer to medical help.  They moved to Blumenort in July 2017.

In April 2018, Edwin was moved to a care facility as it was too difficult for Elisabeth to care for him.  He passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at the age of 85 years and 15 days.

He is predeceased by his parents – Klaas and Katherine Reimer; a daughter Tina, and an infant daughter; an infant brother, and 4 brothers - David, Jacob, Peter, and Albert, and one sister, Mary Peters.

He leaves to mourn his loving wife, Elisabeth Reimer and six children - Diedrich of British Columbia, Justina Brundige of British Columbia, David of Manitoba, Klaas (married to Audrey) of Mississippi, Helen Reimer of Ontario, Betty (married to Ariel) Basa of Manitoba.

He has 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and seven brothers and four sisters.

A public come & go for 10 people at a time will be held from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday February 23, 2021, at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with social distancing and covid 19 protocols set in place. 

The livestreamed private family service will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.

Interment to take place following the service at Blumenort Community Church Cemetery.
