Our sincere sympathies to Sandra, Gerald and Lowell and their families. A few months ago I had the privilege of visiting with Mr. Barkman at Bethesda Place. With my mask on it took a little longer to make the introductions but once that was done, we had a good visit including some memories when our paths had crossed during the nineties. You will miss your dad. But God will comfort.
On behalf of the Prairie Grove congregation,
Pastor Ralph Unger (interim)

A true man of God. Not afraid to stand up for the truth and against sin and injustice. The world needs more men like Harvey.

I am very grateful for the many ways that Pastor Harvey Barkman impacted my life personally. When Jason and I were newlyweds and had very little income Harvey and Avril made sure we could afford the ministerial retreats and generously and discreetly handed us Christmas gifts. Their giving hearts with time, energy and money was an inspiration to me!
And of course my life changed dramatically for the better when they introduced Ken to my mom! I will be forever grateful for that matchmaking. That also wouldn't have been likely if they hadn't been so enthusiastic about teacher training in Mexico.
I loved hearing Mr. Barkman's stories about living overseas and his enthusiasm with speaking French properly. He made sure my kids knew the right accent for a few of the phonetical pairings when they were taking French lessons.
Harvey's enthusiasm and love for my children was a delight. He sometimes couldn't remember their names in the last number of years but he would recognize them and heartily shake their hands and enthusiastically let them know, "I know you, and I LIKE you!". This was a delight for my mother's heart.
May God bless you richly as you remember and may He comfort you as you grieve.
Gaylene

Your obituary was stirring and reminded me of many of the stories Harvey has shared with us through the years.
The first thing that came to my mind while reflecting on Harvey was his energy. I recall him having a footrace around the church with a young person just a few years ago when he was well into his 80s.
And I think of his tireless service. He embodied the verses in I Cor 15 Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
Thank you Harvey for serving the Lord and us wholeheartedly!
